Helene continues to produce catastrophic winds that are pushing further inland over the Florida Big Bend and Florida Panhandle and will soon be entering southeastern Georgia. This is an extremely dangerous and life-threatening situation. Persons should not leave their shelters and remain in place through the passage of these life-threatening conditions. When in the eye, people are reminded to not venture out in the relative calm, as hazardous winds will increase very quickly when the eye passes. An ASOS station at the Perry-Foley Airport recently reported a sustained wind of 55 mph (88 km/h) and a wind gust of 99 mph (159 km/h) while also reporting a minimum pressure of 948 mb (27.97 inches). A National Ocean Service tide gauge at Cedar Key is reporting a water level 8.68 feet above mean higher high water, which is an approximation of inundation in that area.
