Homes being evacuated as wildfire rages in Port Charlotte

CHARLOTTE COUNTY

The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office is evacuating some homes as a wildfire burns.

The fire is covering several blocks near Burns Terrace and Evelyn Avenue near South Gulf Cove in Port Charlotte. Some of the fire is contained, however, firefighters with Charlotte County Fire and EMS say the wind is not in their favor.

A strike team from Sarasota County is en route. CCSO Air 1 has been dropping water on the fire.

CCSO is evacuating some people from homes between Burns and Gillot as a precaution.
